Deer season and buying land in Highland County
Hunting is a big part of life here, and a lot of the land buyers we work with are looking for a place to hunt. A few things worth knowing this month:
- Touring land during gun season? Wear blaze orange, and ask whether anyone has permission to hunt the property. Some rural parcels have informal hunting arrangements with neighbors that buyers should know about before closing.
- Late fall is a good time to see land. With the leaves down you can see the lay of the land, the tree lines, creeks and deer trails much better than in summer.
- We use trail cameras on wooded listings. When we list recreational or hunting land, we often set trail cameras so buyers can see the actual wildlife on the property instead of guessing.
If you are shopping for land, our October 2026 Hillsboro market report shows how land and homes have been selling in the 45133 zip code, and our post on USDA eligibility in Highland County explains when a home on acreage can be financed with no down payment.
Buying or selling in November
In our experience, spring is the busiest season in Southern Ohio, and fall and winter are steady but slower. For buyers, that can mean less competition on the homes that are available. For sellers, the buyers who are out in November tend to be serious, often working around a job change, a lease ending, or a goal of moving before the new year.
